Threading My Eyebrows

We've had a great weekend and I'll write about it soon.  But today I want to talk about eyebrows.

I inherited blond hair from my mother and thick, dark, unruly eyebrows from my father.  Back when I was in high school, my brother said to me "Natalie, you're pretty and all, but if you'd pluck your eyebrows, you'd be devastating."  I remember it word for word because my brother isn't one to dish out compliments, even the kind that leave you wondering if it was a compliment or a slam.  I didn't really heed his advice, though, until I got pictures back from a homecoming dance.  Somewhere in the background was a blue dress and a handsome date, but all I could see were my HUGE eyebrows.  I hadn't known.  How could I have NOT seen how out of control they were?  I begged my date to destroy all evidence, and those pictures were quickly shoved in a box of humiliation.

I tried my hand at it, but I didn't even know where to start.  When my cousin Shannon came into town, she kindly tweezed and finally gave them a little shape.  But it has been an ongoing battle for me.  In college I went too thin, lately I've been letting them go too thick. I have to pluck pretty much every day to keep up, and if I go a week without, I look just awful.  Kevin thinks it's hilarious that I am so self conscious about it, and I'm glad one of us can see the humor in the situation.

But today.  Today I met my salvation in the form of a tiny lady who was hard to communicate with.  A few weeks ago my sister randomly got sucked in at a booth at the mall while waiting for her shift at work.  She excitedly reported her experience to me later.
"I got my eyebrows threaded, and I love them!"
What?  Have any of you ever heard of this?  Here is a demonstration:

So today Marlee and I did it.  It cost $10 and took about 5-10 minutes.   I'm not going to lie, it hurt more than I thought it would.  After years of plucking almost daily, I'm pretty tough about it, but this did sting.  Not too bad, though.  My eyes watered a lot, but after the initial sting, it was fine.  And it was worth it.  So very worth it.
(doesn't Marlee look so serene?)
I took a picture of the end result, but can't find the cord to download it, so...

Maybe I'll dig up an old high school picture and do a follow-up before and after post.  I'll admit, I'm pretty vain about my eyebrows right now.

  1. Natalie, now that they're the shape you want, I recommend using an eybrow razor for the upkeep. I haven't plucked or shaped my eyebrows in about a year, because I just use the razor every three days to get the new little hairs poking through. There are a few different styles, but I like the rounded head, about as large as a fingerprint, with plastic guards to cap off the razor part.

  2. I can't wait to see the after picture! I have to constantly work to keep up with my eyebrows too and I've always been curious about the threading option.

  5. I am an avid threading lover too!!!! I have been doing it for five years now at a little ghetto store for $6 a pop!!! I just wish it would last forever and I wouldn't have to let it grow out before I can get it done again. Strange fact: it hurts more when you are pregnant!!!! I totally noticed it before I found out I was preggo with Maya and when I went back that's what the lady told me!

  8. Meg - you were so right=)

Cousin Jill - University Mall. If you ask at the info desk they'll point you in the right direction. It was just a booth close to Maurices I think. Give it a try and let me know what you think=)
